>> FWSA International Ski Week 2008 - France - by Hap Dunning and Debbie Stewart, VP of Travel

In March, the FWSA International Ski Week was held in Le Trois Vallees, France. 159 enthusiastic skiers and non-skiers participated in a very exciting and enjoyable trip. Organized and very ably led by Norm and Mary Azevedo, with Harry and Karen Davis as assistant trip leaders, we flew from Seattle, San Francisco or Los Angeles to Paris, then to Geneva. Our ski week home was La Tania, a village in the French Alps where we stayed at La Montana and the Chalets at the edge of the village, yet centrally located to the gondola for easy access to the slopes. Le Trois Vallees, meaning "The Three Valleys", truly was spectacular and enormous. The three ski resorts- Courchevel, Meribel and Val Thorens together boast the largest ski area in the World, with over 181 lifts, not including the many T-bars. We had sunny, clear, overcast and snowy conditions which were truly welcomed. Having not had snow in 6 weeks, the storms came in to greet us and provide fresh snow for our skiing pleasure.

For those who chose the day excursions, there were many options such as trips to Geneva, Turin (host of the 2006 Winter Olympics), Chamonix, Annecy, Aix-les-Bains where site seeing, wine tasting and touring was enjoyed by many. There were 2 pub crawls and one trip to the spectacular scenery at La Rosiere, where many skied from France to Italy for lunch. Mont Blanc was in full view there.

After a week of wonderful days and nights in the Alps, 109 people continued on the extension trip. We spent three nights in the charming, small (140,000) city of Aix-en-Provence and three nights in Paris. In Aix there were optional excursions to St. Tropez on the French Riviera, a medieval abbey (Senanque) and to the perched village of Gordes. In Paris, there were optional excursions to two different cabaret shows (Crazy Horse and Moulin Rouge), to Versailles, to the basilica Sacre Coeur and to the Seine for a cruise on the last evening. Our hotel was situated just a stone's throw from the Eiffel Tower and we all got around the city via the subway system, by a train line, by hop-on hop-off buses or by taxi. Paris was a wonderful way to end a terrific trip, despite some logistical glitches. From Paris, with amazing energy, Norm and Mary took off to explore sites in Austria for next year's International Ski Week - 2009.

I'll keep you all informed on next year's trip!
